Tea lover and four-time British Prime Minister William Gladstone (1809-1898) is the author of 'Tea - The Cure All'. It is a very, very well known tea quotation.
Tea - The Cure All
If you are cold, tea will warm you;
If you are too heated, it will cool you;
If you are depressed, it will cheer you;
If you are excited, it will calm you.
If you are too heated, it will cool you;
If you are depressed, it will cheer you;
If you are excited, it will calm you.
I wish I knew where, when, and why he penned this; it sounds like he is defending tea and tea drinking.I hope that someday, in my readings and research, I will discover what compelled an influential, powerful politican to pen a little poem about tea.

Maybe someone showed up in England around that time trying to push coffee onto the people and he got angry! LOL. Ya never know....
Coffee had been in England for years before tea, so still not sure but you're right, you never DO know!
I am sure if anyone can find the why, you can! I do like the quote.
That quote is one I've known all my life, but I have no idea about the surrounding details. I only know that truer words were never written!
What an intriguing question! I'll pull out my librarian/researcher hat (from another life LOL) and see what I can find out .....
Fingers crossed, Di!
