A Unique Tea: Mauna Kea Tea

You know that Hawaii is known for its coffee and I know that Hawaii is known for its coffee ... but did you know that tea was introduced to the Big Island way back in 1887? However, it's only been in the past 10 years or so that commercial growers have been producing high-quality teas for commercial consumption.

Mauna Kea Tea is one of several Hawaiian tea companies now shipping tea directly from Hawaii to the Lower 48. Another is Tea Hawaii & Company, currently being sold by the Samovar Tea Lounge in San Francisco. (Visit Samovar's website for lots more great information and a video.)

Tea from Hawaii. Now that's unique!

I once met a tea grower from Hawaii at the World Tea Expo. We even bought a tea plant from him, which now grows in our yard. Recently heard on teamail that there is a berry grower in Washington state experimenting with tea.
