Catching my breath

Yesterday the law firm where I work did something that they never in their 182-year history have done: lay-offs. Unfortunately, I was one of the casualties. This was 100% totally and absolutely out-of-the-blue and I, together with those who left and those who remain, am still in shock.

I really should not surprised, though. Every day we read of more and more people across America losing their jobs. I just never thought it would happen to me.

I've been thinking of you all morning. I'm sure this feels as though you've been kicked in the stomach. It is hard not to take it personally. I know I would feel gutted. No matter what, remember to take care of your health and love yourself. You are worth more than any job.

Hi Melissa, You are so right. It *is* hard not to take it personally. I am going to try to pamper myself these first few days, starting with a tea tray this afternoon on my front porch! Thanks for your encouragement.

I am so sorry Denise for this unexpected situation. I hope and pray there will be something wonderful that will come out of this experience which is so difficult.

Denise, I am so sorry to hear about what has happened. You're right that this is an unfortunate occurrence for a lot of people these days. My own company has cancelled all raises for this year in an effort to not have to do layoffs. We'll see what happens. My daughter works for a major art museum and they just eliminated 30 positions earlier this week. In times like these, cultural things always suffer cutbacks in budgets, endowments and individual support so we were not really surprised.

Please keep positive thoughts that something will come your way and take care of yourself in the meantime.

Oh Denise~ sorry to hear about this. There is a reason and purpose for everything... and although many times we don't know or understand the 'why' of something... just know tha, in the end, you will come out on top!

Ah sweetie! Well you can be sure that God knew this was going to happen before we did and He already knows how he's going to resolve it. He's got a plan for you! I'll pray that he'll make himself and his plan known to you in the coming days ahead and the PEACE that comes along with it. You are not alone my friend!

Oh Denise! Just reading the headline on your post hit me like a blow! Please know you're in my thoughts and prayers ... I do love your idea about pampering yourself with the tea tray. Hope it somehow helps to know there are those of us cheering you on here in blogland.

Ah, cheers for that Angela. Yes, it does help. Thank you! P.S. The tea tray had Girl Scout cookies on it! Yum.

Denise,
I am so sorry to hear you were laid off. It is terrifying times for so many. When I was working I always paniced when there were layoffs. Marmalady's came from a layoff time; so you just never know what the future holds.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? But I still want you to know how badly I felt when I read your blog a few minutes ago.
I'm praying that God will make a rainbow out of this current storm in your life.
Tea and Hugs!

Denise - What a shock. That is stunning. I am so sorry. I've been there and it is horrible. For me, it ended leading to a good thing but no one could have told me that then. I hope the very best for you, and soon.

Denise, I am so sorry that this happened to you; I do know how you feel as it happened to me two years ago. Give yourself some time to pamper yourself and then sit down and ask yourself ' what would make me happy?' You will find the answers you seek. Perhaps devoting yourself to the tea tours of London? Community service? Life will hold many possibilities for you, I am sure! Best to you! Susan T.

Denise, so many wonderful things can come from this- although it doesn't seem that way right now I'm sure. My catering business came about when I lost my job and I say all the time it was the greatest thing that ever happened to me! But, I know all of your blogging buddies are the lucky ones here, because we know that we will be the grateful recipients on whatever new adventure life has in store for you! Blessings & Prayers coming your way!

Denise, I am SO sorry to hear your news - I'm in the legal industry too (law librarian) and have been reading for weeks about lay-offs all the way up the ladder to lawyers - incredible times. Hooray for pampering yourself right now! Do take special care of you, and have confidence in your skills and experience - praying God has a new window ready to open for you very soon!

Hi Denise,
I'm so sorry to read this tonight.

It does seem that we know more and more people this is happening to.
I do hope something comes up for you.
I know you must be shattered somewhat...but there could be a new "plan" in the making for your life in the days ahead.

You just never know....I always read and hear of people who lost their jobs and started their own sucessful companies and such.
Maybe that will be you!!
A new "Tea" business possibly????
Hang in there......

So sorry to hear this. As already mentioned by several friends, you will come out ahead - maybe by turning this into a new business venture. Rest and pamper yourself as much as you can, Denise, while you think this through.

I'm so sorry to hear about your layoff. In Western PA there has been many layoffs. It saddens me. But, these stressful times are only temporary. I know there's better times ahead. I wish your family the best and much success on your search for another position. Have a cup of tea on me!
