It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

British families are turning to the cinema and the tea room during the economic downturn as a cheaper form of entertainment. According to an article in The Telegraph, the current financial crisis has resulted in the best summer cinema attendance in almost 40 years. Industry figures say Mamma Mia! has been particularly instrumental in making this summer the best for British cinema admissions since 1972.

The English tradition of afternoon tea is also enjoying a renaissance as younger people are shunning expensive coffee houses for the tea room. Some tearooms have reported a 30 per cent increase in trade over the last 12 months.

William Gorman, executive chairman of the UK Tea Council, said: "People are coming back to tea in droves. It is a natural product which is rich in antioxidents and is great for hydration as it is 99 per cent water. It is also very good value for money."

Afternoon tea and a movie sounds great to me! Have you seen any good movies lately?
