One of the joys of our online tea guide Great Tearooms Of America is the variety of tearoom styles we encounter as people register their businesses with us. There truly is something for everyone on the American tearoom scene. Case in point: the mobile, "traveling tearoom" above!
Also called an "English Cottage on wheels", GayGrace Teas offers hot tea, iced tea, iced chai, scones, tea sandwiches, and desserts. 20 varieties of loose teas are available as well as boxed teas. Tea equippage is also availabe for purchase.
According to a news article, the owner spent several months looking at properties for a tearoom. She discovered that the initial investment for a brick-and-mortar shop was very high, so she decided to "go mobile". She worked with her local SCORE office, purchased a truck on eBay for $38,000, and invested $1,800 to rework its electrical system. Her "English Cottage on wheels" is open Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday (the owner, Gay Geiger Hughes of Natick, works another job 3 days a week) at two area (Wayland/Hopkinton, Massachusetts) garden centers. How clever! What a great concept.
This is so cool, thanks for sharing. I wish they were at my home now. Guess I go to freezer and take out a blueberry scone and have a cup of tea. Reading tea blogs, the food is so wonderful it just makes you hungry. lol
Oh my stars! If she were only HERE, I would put her on the front of our magazine! (And on another note ... it had never occurred to me a tea room need not be strictly bricks and mortar. Hmmm ...) Bless you for sharing this!
